Roger Vivier found artistic expression in the sculpting of a last as well as in the designing of the arch of a heel and the angle of a toe. Vivier realized the details of his designs by creating pullovers. Pull-overs are three dimensional models of shoes made during the design phase of shoe production and consist of shoe uppers that have been pulled onto and over wooden lasts to show the design of a new style. The Bata Shoe Museum collection holds eighty pullovers by Vivier from his time with the House of Dior. Image copyright © 2012 Bata Shoe Museum, Toronto, Canada (CNW Group/Bata Shoe Museum)
